Iceland Challenge DMC recently hosted a technical study visit to Iceland for members of
Talonrakennusteollisuus ry, representing leading construction companies in Finland.
The program reflects a key trend in modern business travel: purpose-driven journeys that
combine professional learning, networking, sustainability insights, and immersive destination
experiences.
Over five days, participants explored how Icelandic construction and infrastructure systems
are designed to operate in environments shaped by volcanic activity, geothermal conditions,
harsh weather, and remote geography.
A highlight of the program was a visit to the Hellisheiði Geothermal Power Station and the
Carbfix carbon capture site, showcasing Iceland’s global leadership in renewable energy and
carbon mineralization technology.
The delegation also examined protective infrastructure in Grindavík, gaining insight into
Iceland’s real-time response to volcanic risk and infrastructure protection strategies.
An important part of the technical program was a visit to SI – The Federation of Icelandic
Industries, one of the largest and most influential employer and industry organizations in
Iceland, representing companies across construction, manufacturing, energy, innovation, and
other industrial sectors.
During the meeting, the Finnish delegation and Icelandic industry representatives discussed
the current situation in the construction sectors of both Iceland and Finland, comparing
market conditions, labor challenges, housing development, sustainability goals, and future
industry trends. The visit also created valuable networking opportunities, allowing
participants to establish new professional contacts and strengthen connections between the
Icelandic and Finnish construction industries.
The program combined technical learning with iconic Icelandic experiences, including visits to
Þingvellir National Park, Geysir, Gullfoss waterfall, whale watching tours, and the Laugarás
geothermal lagoon, among others.
Iceland Challenge DMC delivered full program design and management, including logistics,
technical site visits, networking meetings with local experts, accommodation, transportation,
and curated cultural experiences.
