The Maastricht region is one of Europe’s leading culinary destinations, reflected in its impressive number of Michelin-awarded venues. Within a compact and easily accessible area, the region offers 10 Michelin one-star restaurants and 2 two-star restaurants. Among them is Create, located in the newly opened Van Oys Maastricht Retreat, which achieved two stars within just six months of opening, a rare accomplishment. Adding to its culinary prestige, Maastricht is also the annual host city of the Michelin Guide Ceremony for the Netherlands.
This level of excellence extends beyond restaurants. Michelin recently introduced the Michelin Keys, recognising hotels that stand out in hospitality and service.
"Over the past few years, the Guide's inspectors have selected more than 7,000 establishments in 125 countries to compile an exceptional global hotel collection," says Michelin. "Every hotel in this selection embodies excellence in terms of design, architecture, service, and character. Just like the Stars awarded to restaurants, the Michelin Key highlights the very best hotels. This distinction has three different levels: one, two, or three Keys."
Of the 17 hotels in the Netherlands awarded one or more Keys, three are located in the Maastricht region and are partners of the Maastricht Convention Bureau. Château St. Gerlach and Van Oys Maastricht Retreat each received one Michelin Key, while Château Neercanne was awarded two. These distinctions highlight a region where gastronomy and hospitality go hand in hand.
The offering is further strengthened by Maastricht Heuvelland Culinair, now part of the Maastricht Convention Bureau network. This collective unites 36 leading restaurants and culinary innovators, elevating the region’s appeal for international conferences and business events.
