Culture will take centre stage in Catalonia in 2026, creating an exceptional backdrop for business events. A calendar of internationally renowned celebrations—including the Gaudí Year, Barcelona as the World Capital of Architecture, and the Pau Casals Year—offers a powerful reason to bring meetings, incentives, conferences, and corporate gatherings to the region. These milestones not only honour the global legacy of Catalan culture but also provide unique opportunities to enrich event programmes with meaningful, high-value experiences. From exclusive cultural visits and themed networking events to inspiring conference settings, Catalonia in 2026 becomes more than a destination—it becomes part of the event narrative.
Throughout the year, a wide range of exhibitions, congresses, and cultural activities will showcase the region’s extraordinary artistic and architectural heritage. For business events, this means access to a dynamic ecosystem where knowledge, creativity, and culture intersect.
The year 2026 presents itself as a unique opportunity to meet in Catalonia and discover the work of two artists known worldwide: Antoni Gaudí and Pau Casals. In addition, Barcelona will be the epicentre of world architecture through the congresses, conferences, and exhibitions that will be organised in the Catalan capital throughout the year.
Gaudí Year
Gaudí Year highlights one of the most universally recognised figures in Catalan culture. Antoni Gaudí embodies talent capable of transforming architecture into a symbolic, organic language deeply rooted in the territory, turning it into a cultural expression recognised around the world.
The anniversary engages in conversation with both heritage and the contemporary world, connecting Gaudí’s legacy to other Catalan architectural and creative voices, to reinforce Catalonia’s position as a world leader in architecture and design. One of the highlights of the programme will be the inauguration of the Jesus Tower of the Sagrada Família basilica, scheduled for June 2026.
Gaudí Year will provide a highly valuable cultural offer that goes beyond Barcelona, espeially on the Costa Daurada, with Reus and Riudoms as key sites. Gaudí Year also focuses on Catalan Art Nouveau or Modernisme, which can be admired throughout Catalonia in buildings designed by Jujol, Domènech i Montaner, Puig i Cadafalch and Martinell, the architect of the famous wine cathedrals.
Another major event in the programme will be a Gaudí exhibition at the History Museum of Catalonia, which will help to consolidate the legacy of the Gaudí Year and strengthen the spread of culture through tourism. Although there are no specific dates yet, it will take place in the second half of 2026.

Pau Casals Year
Pau Casals Year commemorates the 150th anniversary of the musician’s birth and reaffirms his status as a key figure in Catalan and universal culture, not only for his artistic excellence but also for the values he upheld throughout his life. Pau Casals represents the values of a culture of peace, based on freedom, democracy and commitment to human dignity.
His music has transcended the artistic sphere to become an instrument to build Catalonia’s cultural profile and narrative.
Pau Casals Year reinforces the role of music and the arts as fundamental aspects of cultural tourism to create experiences that connect emotion, territory and shared values. In this sense, the Pau Casals Foundation is promoting a broad and diverse programme with over 60 activities, including exhibitions, concerts, educational and participative activities and national and international events.
Barcelona will host various concerts and commemorative activities, such as Pau Casals Day, musical programmes at the Palau de la Música, the Auditori and the Gran Teatre del Liceu, and the exhibition “Pau Casals, an artist at the service of peace” in the Palau Robert.
In El Vendrell, Pau Casals’s birthplace, visitors can take in the Pau Casals Museum, situated on the seafront, to explore the life and music of the cellist through an attractive and family-friendly tourist offer. Barcelona. World Capital of Architecture
Barcelona’s designation as World Capital of Architecture places the city – and, by extension, Catalonia as a whole – at the centre of the international debate on architecture, urban planning, sustainability and quality of life.
Barcelona is a living cultural laboratory, where architecture expresses the relationship between the city, citizens and creativity. The designation is a chance to present culture not just as heritage, but also as a living, contemporary and forward-looking process.
In the context of the Year of Cultural Tourism 2026, Barcelona, World Capital of Architecture, will provide a global platform to connect historical legacy with the creative industries, sustainable urbanism and cultural innovation, reinforcing Catalonia’s ability to offer an up[1]to-date cultural narrative linked to the major global challenges.
In this sense, the Architects’ Association of Catalonia (COAC) has designed a number of architectural routes for visitors to explore the territory. The routes focus on architects, authors, styles, types of building and other themes that are sure to create an impact. Options involving geolocated itineraries designed for exploration on foot, by bicycle or by car, to experience architecture at first hand.

Catalonia, a cultural destination
Catalonia is much more than a territory: it is a crossroads of civilisations, a mosaic of living heritage, a constant dialogue between tradition and the avant-garde. From the earliest artistic expressions in cave paintings to the icons of Modernisme, or Catalan Art Nouveau, from medieval monasteries and castles to local festivals and literary routes, Catalonia offers an authentic, diverse and immersive cultural experience.
With thousands of years of history leaving their mark on every corner of our territory, visitors can discover six UNESCO World Heritage Sites and the seven elements designated as Intangible Cultural Heritage. Scattered throughout the country, they make Catalonia a unique and easily recognisable destination for cultural tourism. With architectural styles ranging from Romanesque to Modernisme, from the tradition of human castles to local festes and festivals, every corner of the territory offers a unique experience.
In this land of geniuses – Dalí, Miró, Tàpies, Mercè Rodoreda, Víctor Català (Caterina Albert), Pau Casals and so many others – creativity is everywhere. Catalonia comes alive with festivals that fill its cities and streets with energy, museums that preserve its memories and routes that invite visitors to wander from the beaten paths. Along routes such as the Way of St James and the Grand Tour of Catalonia, travellers pass through landscapes that tell stories to discover a surprising, uplifting and unforgettable culture.
Catalonia has also been the setting for films and series that have immortalised its landscapes and cities. For film and audiovisual production, the territory is rich in locations, memories and inspiration, connecting visitors to fiction and reality, to the past and present.
